Author Interview with Sherry Gammon!

We were lucky enough to interview Sherry Gammon, author of the Port Fare series. We are excited to learn a little bit more about the story behind the story. So, without further ado... take it away, Sherry!

What inspired you to write the Port Fare series?

I’ve written most of my life and have written many different things. I was in the middle of another story when the idea for the Port Fare Series just invaded my mind. I wrote book one, Unlovable, and half way through I realized that I wanted to make a series. I quickly changed a few things, and outlined the other two books before finishing Unlovable.

How long did it take you to write book two in the series, Unbelievable

A very long time. Two years. I rewrote it five times. Originally, the Port Fares series was a fantasy series so when I switched it to a contemporary setting, I had to rewrite book two. It took me a while to get it to a place I loved. I now love Cole’s story and Cole

What are some of your favorite books from childhood? Were there any specific authors who inspired you?

My favorite books where the Beverly Cleary books. I LOVED them. She was definitely an influence on me. I also love Victor Hugo (Les Miserables). It is my favorite book.

Where did you come up with the characters Lilah and Cole?

Lilah is the sister to the bad guys in book one. I thought it would be fun to bring in their sister and see what kind of havoc she could cause. Cole is the mild-mannered doctor from book one.

If you could befriend a character from any of your books, who would you befriend? Why?

Lilah. She is a wild, crazy ball of energy and she’s way to spontaneous.

Where do you like to write? Do you listen to music while you are writing?

I have a room I write in, and NO music. I do listen to it when I need to evoke a mood for a story before I write thought.

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be? Why?

Hawaii or Paris…and do I really need to explain why?? ;}

The first book in the series, Unlovable, is being made into a film. What has this process been like for you? Do you have any idea when the movie will come out?

Hollywood moves VERY slow. I have been helping with the script, which has been fun. The screenwriter sent me her draft and told me to cut things out. I liked that most of the words are taken directly from the book. I deleted parts, rewrote other parts and sent it back. Fun!! No idea when it will come out. They have told me they will start filming in early summer.
